Decide whether teams need exact outdoor position, building or zone presence, proximity to a vehicle, movement history or simply proof an asset is on site.
How do we stop wasting time looking for assets?
If people regularly phone around, walk the site or rely on spreadsheets to find equipment, the real problem is not “tracking technology”. It is missing operational visibility. The right design starts with where assets move, how quickly they must be found and what action follows when something is missing.
Three decisions before choosing technology.
Start with the operating requirement. The technology is only useful if it answers the question your team needs to act on.
GPS/GNSS suits wide-area outdoor movement. BLE can support high-volume proximity and zone workflows. Indoor RTLS is useful when room, department or floor visibility matters.
Visibility only creates value when exceptions have owners. Agree what should happen when an asset leaves a site, remains unused, cannot be found or enters the wrong area.
Turn the challenge into a deployable workflow.
A strong solution design makes the operational question, technology, exception and owner explicit.

Clear answers help you scope the requirement before a technical or commercial discussion.
Do all assets need GPS trackers?
No. GPS can be unnecessary for assets that remain inside a controlled building or site. BLE, gateways or indoor RTLS may answer the location question with less power and hardware.
Can different tracker types appear in one platform?
Yes. A mixed estate can use different locating technologies while presenting the operational data through a common platform and workflow.
What should we track first?
Start with assets that cause measurable disruption when unavailable: high-value items, frequently searched equipment, shared assets, mobile plant or items repeatedly hired because their location is unclear.
