Indoor tracking & real-time location systems

Track it. Find it. Use it.

Indoor visibility for the assets and people your operation depends on. Using Bluetooth Low Energy and Wirepas Mesh, we help airport, healthcare and venue teams find shared equipment faster, understand where it moves and see what is available through Foretrack Connect.

THE SIMPLE IDEAGPS tells you where something is outside. RTLS gives you operational visibility inside.

We use two indoor location approaches: BLE for straightforward proximity and zone visibility, and Wirepas Mesh for larger, denser estates that need scalable room, floor and multi-building coverage. The deployment is chosen around the workflow, asset volume and building.

Turn location into an operational advantage

Stop searching. Start using.

The real value of indoor tracking is not a dot on a map. It is what happens when your team can find the right asset faster, understand availability and act before a missing item becomes a delay.

01

Find equipment faster

Search by asset, category, room or zone and give teams a clear last-known or live location.

02

Improve utilisation

See what is active, idle, available or repeatedly sitting in the wrong part of the estate.

03

Reduce unnecessary spend

Make better purchasing and rental decisions using real evidence of asset availability and usage.

04

Automate the exceptions

Use movement, zone, dwell and condition events to surface what needs attention without watching a screen all day.

What can you track?

If it moves through a building, start by asking whether it needs to be visible.

One RTLS design can support very different asset classes. The tag, locating method and accuracy are selected around the size, environment, workflow and business value of what you need to find.

Where indoor visibility changes the operation

Built first for aviation and healthcare.

These are environments where shared assets move constantly, search time creates real operational friction and knowing where equipment is can change the next decision.

Two indoor technologies. One operational view.

BLE when simple is enough. Wirepas Mesh when the estate needs to scale.

Indoor tracking should not be over-engineered. We choose between Bluetooth Low Energy and Wirepas Mesh based on the number of assets, the building, required location level and how the data needs to reach Foretrack Connect.

01 BLUETOOTH LOW ENERGY

Simple proximity and zone visibility.

BLE tags and sensors are a strong fit when assets can be detected by nearby gateways and the workflow needs presence, proximity or defined-zone visibility without building a dense location network.

  • Lower-density indoor deployments
  • Presence and zone-level workflows
  • Compact battery-powered tags and sensors
  • Fast to add around existing compatible gateways
Typical fitTools, cages, trolleys, equipment stores, vehicles carrying tagged assets and defined operational zones.

02 WIREPAS MESH

Scalable room and floor-level indoor visibility.

Wirepas Mesh is designed for larger and denser indoor estates. Tags communicate through a self-organising mesh of anchors, with gateways passing location data into Foretrack Connect for search, history, alerts and utilisation.

  • Large buildings and multi-floor estates
  • High numbers of tagged assets
  • Room-level operational visibility
  • Self-organising, self-healing mesh architecture
Typical fitHospitals, airport terminals, large venues and complex estates where hundreds or thousands of assets move between rooms, floors and departments.

How the solution works

Tag. Locate. Connect. Act.

We use Bluetooth Low Energy and Wirepas Mesh for indoor location, depending on the required accuracy, scale and environment. Foretrack Connect turns the resulting location events into one usable operational view.

01
TAG

Give it an identity

A suitable tag, beacon, sensor or wearable is associated with the asset or person you need to locate.

02
BLE

Locate it indoors

BLE gateways or Wirepas Mesh anchors detect tagged assets and resolve the useful room, floor, zone or proximity event.

03
MESH

Move the data reliably

For larger Wirepas deployments, anchors form a self-organising network and pass tag data through gateways to the platform.

04
ACT

Trigger the workflow

Search, alert, report, integrate or analyse so location data changes a real operational decision.

One operational view

Indoor tracking should not become another isolated portal.

Foretrack Connect is the layer your team uses to turn device data into a practical view of what is where, how it moves and what needs attention.

  • Search current or last-known location
  • View movement and location history
  • Understand asset utilisation and dwell
  • Create zone, movement and exception alerts
  • Bring sensor data alongside location
  • Integrate selected data into wider workflows
Beyond “where is it?”

Make location trigger the next action.

The best RTLS deployments connect location to the task that follows. That is where tracking starts to change the operation.

SEARCH

“Find the nearest available wheelchair.”

Surface the closest relevant asset instead of making staff search every likely location.

EXCEPTION

“This cage has left its permitted zone.”

Trigger a movement or zone event when an asset is somewhere it should not be.

UTILISATION

“We own 80. How many are actually used?”

Use movement and dwell patterns to support rightsizing, redeployment and investment decisions.

WORKFLOW

“This asset has arrived in the service area.”

Use location events to support cleaning, maintenance, return-to-stock or other downstream processes.

Start with a useful pilot

Prove the workflow. Then scale the estate.

RTLS becomes easier to justify when the first deployment has a clear outcome. We can start with one asset class, one building or a defined operational area and scale from evidence.

01

Show us the problem

Tell us what goes missing, what staff search for, where delays happen and what the current process costs in time or money.

02

Map the environment

We define the building, zones, asset population, desired accuracy, infrastructure and any integration requirements.

03

Pilot and measure

Deploy around a controlled use case, agree what success looks like and measure search time, availability, utilisation or other relevant outcomes.

04

Scale what works

Extend the model across more assets, departments, buildings or locations while keeping the user experience consistent.

01What is an RTLS?

RTLS stands for Real-Time Location System. It locates tagged assets or people inside defined environments such as hospitals, airport terminals, venues, warehouses and campuses where GPS is not the right locating method.

TAGTag the assetA compact BLE tag is fitted to the trolley, bed, cage or equipment.
MESHDetect its positionNearby BLE gateways or Wirepas anchors detect the tag inside the building.
DATASend the dataA gateway passes location events securely to the platform.
LIVESee it in ForetrackTeams search, locate, alert and review movement in Foretrack Connect.
02How accurate is indoor tracking?

Accuracy depends on the technology and infrastructure. A project may only need building, floor or zone visibility, while other workflows justify room-level or higher-density positioning. We specify the location level around the operational decision you need to make.

03What can we track indoors?

Examples include trolleys, cages, wheelchairs, beds, medical equipment, tools, mobile devices, cleaning equipment and other high-value or operationally important assets. People can also be included where there is an agreed safety or workflow requirement with appropriate privacy controls.

04Can indoor and outdoor tracking work together?

Yes. Different asset classes can use different locating methods and still appear in the wider Foretrack Connect environment. This is useful when an operation needs indoor RTLS alongside vehicle, battery-powered or other outdoor tracking.

05Do we need to track every asset?

No. The strongest business cases usually start with assets that are valuable, shared, frequently searched for, operationally critical or costly to replace or rent. We help identify the asset classes most likely to create measurable value.

06Can RTLS integrate with our existing systems?

Integration depends on the systems and workflow involved. Foretrack Connect can act as the operational layer for location data, and selected deployments can pass relevant information into wider business processes through supported interfaces.

07How do we start?

Start with the operational problem, the assets you need to make visible, the building and the decision the location data needs to improve. Foresolutions can then scope a pilot or wider deployment around the appropriate indoor technology.
