Be clear whether the priority is staff safety, deterrence, incident evidence, complaints, lone working or another documented operational need.
How do we create reliable evidence when an incident happens?
Body-worn video is most useful when the governance is as clear as the camera. The operating policy, activation workflow, evidence access, retention and user training all need to support the reason the organisation is deploying cameras in the first place.
Three decisions before choosing technology.
Start with the operating requirement. The technology is only useful if it answers the question your team needs to act on.
Agree authorised access, retention, export, audit and review processes before the first large-scale deployment.
Activation and evidence handling need to be simple enough to work during real incidents, not just during demonstrations.
Turn the challenge into a deployable workflow.
A strong solution design makes the operational question, technology, exception and owner explicit.

Clear answers help you scope the requirement before a technical or commercial discussion.
Is buying body cameras enough?
No. A usable deployment also needs policy, evidence handling, access controls, retention decisions, training and an operating process that matches the use case.
How long should footage be retained?
Retention should be based on the organisation’s lawful purpose, policy and applicable data-protection requirements. It should be defined with appropriate governance advice rather than copied from another organisation.
Can body-worn video support staff safety?
It can form part of a staff-safety approach by providing a recording and evidence workflow, but the wider operating procedure, training and risk controls remain important.
